The match started at a slow pace, with several handling errors from both teams. Hammies tried to get the flow going by Dini at No. 10, who put a lot of pace on the ball in his approach to the attack. But the outside back positioning is what let the attack down in the first 40 minutes. Hammies kept their possession of the ball reasonably well in general play, but when it came to the set pieces they struggled considerably. First match butterflies, combined with a couple of wrong decisions, were the causes in the end in what was a fairly average performance by Hammies standards.
