Two Saturdays ago, the Hammies 4th team played at UCT for the second week in a row for the last game of the season. With excitement and some sadness, the players got together before the game to prepare themselves.
We did not start off well with two intercept tries in the first 10 min, but that did not affect the Hammies side. The players pulled together and started to gel with the six newcomers that helped us out. We then started to play with some structure and some dignity. The forwards took the ball upfront and score the first try from a pick up and go.
This try made a spark and from the half kick-off we played the same pattern for almost all the second half. This drained the pack as half were players that helped us out. At the end this took its toll and the students ran us from one side to the other and scored some good tries.
The season ended in a hard and fast game. Thanks to the players who stuck with Hammies for a tough and long season and we appreciate it tremendously. Good luck to the rest of the club, for the remainder of the season and we will be there to support you every game.
